Definition of 'Immunization'Deliberate stimulation of the host's immune response. ACTIVE IMMUNIZATION involves administration of ANTIGENS or IMMUNOLOGIC ADJUVANTS. PASSIVE IMMUNIZATION involves administration of IMMUNE SERA or LYMPHOCYTES or their extracts (e.g., transfer factor, immune RNA) or transplantation of immunocompetent cell producing tissue (thymus or bone marrow). Common names: Immunization; Immunizations; Sensitization, Immunologic; Sensitization, Immunological; Immunological Sensitization; Immunological Sensitizations; Sensitizations, Immunological; Immunologic Stimulation; Immunostimulation; Immunological Stimulation; Immunological Stimulations |

BACKGROUND: Patients with human leukocyte antigen antibodies constitute a significantly disadvantaged population among those awaiting renal transplantation. We speculated that more understanding of the patients' antibody makeup would allow a more ... Read more...

There is controversy on the role of IgM memory and switched memory B lymphocytes in the Ab response to T cell-independent and T cell-dependent Ags. We transplanted SCID/SCID mice with human B lymphocyte subsets and immunized them with ... Read more...

3 Oct 2008
Pauci-immune focal necrotizing glomerulonephritis (FNGN) is a severe inflammatory disease associated with autoantibodies to neutrophil cytoplasmic antigens (ANCA). Here we characterize autoantibodies to lysosomal membrane protein-2 (LAMP-2) and ... Read more...
