Insulin - Therapeutic use
Research News and Information
Definition of 'Insulin'A 51-amino acid pancreatic hormone that plays a major role in the regulation of glucose metabolism, directly by suppressing endogenous glucose production (GLYCOGENOLYSIS; GLUCONEOGENESIS) and indirectly by suppressing GLUCAGON secretion and LIPOLYSIS. Native insulin is a globular protein comprised of a zinc-coordinated hexamer. Each insulin monomer containing two chains, A (21 residues) and B (30 residues), linked by two disulfide bonds. Insulin is used as a drug to control insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (DIABETES MELLITUS, TYPE 1). |

3 Oct 2009
To focus on early cardiac and vascular autonomic dysfunction that might complicate type 1 diabetes mellitus in children, we planned an observational, cross-sectional study in a population of 93 young patients, under insulin treatment, subdivided in ... Read more...
Leukocytoclastic vasculitis associated with insulin aspart in a patient with type 2 diabetes.
29 Sep 2009
OBJECTIVE: To report a case of leukocytoclastic vasculitis associated with insulin aspart therapy. CASE SUMMARY: A 56-year-old man was admitted to the Department of Endocrinology because of a poorly controlled Type 2 diabetes. In an attempt to reach ... Read more...
