Mesangial Cells - Cytology
Research News and Information
Definition of 'Mesangial Cells'Smooth muscle-like cells adhering to the wall of the small blood vessels of the KIDNEY at the glomerulus and along the vascular pole of the glomerulus in the JUXTAGLOMERULAR APPARATUS. They are myofibroblasts with contractile and phagocytic properties. These cells and their MESANGIAL EXTRACELLULAR MATRIX constitute the GLOMERULAR MESANGIUM. Viral RNA and DNA trigger common antiviral responses in mesangial cells.
25 Aug 2009
Extrarenal viral infections commonly trigger glomerulonephritis, usually in association with immune complex disease. The Ig component of immune complexes can activate glomerular cell Fc receptors, but whether complexed viral nucleic acids contribute ... Read more...
Subcellular localization of Nox4 and regulation in diabetes.
15 Aug 2009
Oxidative stress is implicated in human diseases. Some of the oxidative pathways are harbored in the mitochondria. NAD(P)H oxidases have been identified not only in phagocytic but also in somatic cells. Nox4 is the most ubiquitous of these oxidases ... Read more...

AIM: Both adrenomedullin (ADM) and adrenotensin (ADT) are derived from the same propeptide precursor, and both act as circulating hormones and local paracrine mediators with multiple biological activities. Compared with ADM, little is known about ... Read more...
