Definition of 'Mitogen-Activated Protein Kinase 1'

A proline-directed serine/threonine protein kinase which mediates signal transduction from the cell surface to the nucleus. Activation of the enzyme by phosphorylation leads to its translocation into the nucleus where it acts upon specific transcription factors. p40 MAPK and p41 MAPK are isoforms.

Common names: Mitogen-Activated Protein Kinase 1; Mitogen Activated Protein Kinase 1; Extracellular Signal-Regulated Kinase 2; Extracellular Signal Regulated Kinase 2; MAP Kinase 2; MAPK1 Mitogen-Activated Protein Kinase; MAPK1 Mitogen Activated Protein Kinase; p42(Mitogen-Activated Protein Kinase)

p38SJ, a novel DINGG protein protects neuronal cells from alcohol induced injury and death.

29 Nov 2009 Ethanol induces neuronal cell injury and death by dysregulating several signaling events that are controlled, in part, by activation of MAPK/ERK1/2 and/or inactivation of its corresponding phosphatase, PP1. Recently, we have purified a novel protein ... Read more...

Intrinsic resistance to the MEK1/2 inhibitor AZD6244 (ARRY-142886) is associated with weak ERK1/2 signalling and/or strong PI3K signalling in colorectal cancer cell lines.

13 Nov 2009 Mutations in KRAS or BRAF frequently manifest in constitutive activation of the MEK1/2-ERK1/2 signalling pathway. The MEK1/2-selective inhibitor, AZD6244 (ARRY-142886), blocks ERK1/2 activation and is currently undergoing clinical evaluation. Tumour ... Read more...

The effects of electroacupuncture on TH1/TH2 cytokine mRNA expression and mitogen-activated protein kinase signaling pathways in the splenic T cells of traumatized rats.

30 Oct 2009 BACKGROUND: Surgical trauma contributes to postoperative immune suppression, which is associated with an increased susceptibility to subsequent infections. Electroacupuncture (EA) can alleviate pain and exert immunoregulatory effects. However, the ... Read more...
