Mitral Valve Prolapse - Ultrasonography
Research News and Information
Definition of 'Mitral Valve Prolapse'Abnormal protrusion or billowing of one or both of the leaflets of MITRAL VALVE into the LEFT ATRIUM during SYSTOLE. This allows the backflow of blood into left atrium leading to MITRAL VALVE INSUFFICIENCY; SYSTOLIC MURMURS; or CARDIAC ARRHYTHMIA. Common names: Mitral Valve Prolapse; Mitral Valve Prolapses; Prolapse, Mitral Valve; Prolapses, Mitral Valve; Valve Prolapse, Mitral; Valve Prolapses, Mitral; Mitral Click-Murmur Syndrome; Click-Murmur Syndrome, Mitral; Mitral Click Murmur Syndrome; Syndrome, Mitral Click-Murmur; Mitral Valve Prolapse Syndrome |

Prophylaxis to prevent infective endocarditis: to use or not to use?
30 Jul 2009
The American Heart Association (AHA) published their revised guidelines in 2007 in which they markedly limited the recommendations for the use of antimicrobial prophylaxis for the prevention of infective endocarditis (IE), except for patients who ... Read more...
Echocardiographic assessment of 537 dogs with mitral valve prolapse and leaflet involvement.
29 Jun 2009
In this work we investigated which mitral valve leaflet was most often involved in mitral valve prolapse with degenerative mitral valve disease and whether there was an association with breed, age, gender, or weight. Five hundred and thirty-seven ... Read more...

BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to evaluate the value and accuracy of multiplanar reconstruction (MPR) of three-dimensional (3D) transthoracic echocardiographic data sets in assessing mitral valve pathology in patients with surgical mitral ... Read more...
