Definition of 'Movement'

The act, process, or result of passing from one place or position to another. It differs from LOCOMOTION in that locomotion is restricted to the passing of the whole body from one place to another, while movement encompasses both locomotion but also a change of the position of the whole body or any of its parts. Movement may be used with reference to humans, vertebrate and invertebrate animals, and microorganisms. Differentiate also from MOTOR ACTIVITY, movement associated with behavior.

Visual learning shapes the processing of complex movement stimuli in the human brain.

2 Nov 2009 Recognition of actions and complex movements is fundamental for social interactions and action understanding. While the relationship between motor expertise and visual recognition of body movements has received a vast amount of interest, the role of ... Read more...

Dynamic encoding of movement direction in motor cortical neurons.

2 Nov 2009 When we perform a skilled movement such as reaching for an object, we can make use of prior information, for example about the location of the object in space. This helps us to prepare the movement, and we gain improved accuracy and speed during ... Read more...

Robot-assisted rehabilitation of the paretic upper limb: rationale of the ARAMIS project.

30 Oct 2009 Robot ARAMIS (Automatic Recovery Arm Motility Integrated System) is intended to provide the therapist with novel and time/cost-efficient approaches to the rehabilitation of the paretic upper limb after stroke. The system has been designed and ... Read more...
