Muscle Fatigue
Research News and Information
Definition of 'Muscle Fatigue'A state arrived at through prolonged and strong contraction of a muscle. Studies in athletes during prolonged submaximal exercise have shown that muscle fatigue increases in almost direct proportion to the rate of muscle glycogen depletion. Muscle fatigue in short-term maximal exercise is associated with oxygen lack and an increased level of blood and muscle lactic acid, and an accompanying increase in hydrogen-ion concentration in the exercised muscle. |

Predicting the effect of muscle length on fatigue during electrical stimulation.
29 Sep 2009
Mathematical models have been developed to predict fatigue during functional electrical stimulation, but the predictive accuracy at different muscle lengths is unknown. The objectives of our study were to: (1) experimentally determine the ... Read more...
Functional capacity and muscular abnormalities in subclinical hypothyroidism.
29 Sep 2009
BACKGROUND: Neuromuscular abnormalities and low exercise tolerance are frequently observed in overt hypothyroidism, but it remains controversial if they can also occur in subclinical hypothyroidism (sHT). The aim of this study is to evaluate ... Read more...
Changes in the mechanical properties of human quadriceps muscle after eccentric exercise.
30 Aug 2009
Muscular adaptation which occurs following eccentric exercise-induced muscle damage has been associated with changes in the mechanical properties of muscle manifested as a shift in the length-tension relationship towards longer muscle lengths. ... Read more...
