Muscle Fibers, Fast-Twitch
Research News and Information
Definition of 'Muscle Fibers, Fast-Twitch'Skeletal muscle fibers characterized by their expression of the Type II MYOSIN HEAVY CHAIN isoforms which have high ATPase activity and effect several other functional properties - shortening velocity, power output, rate of tension redevelopment. Several fast types have been identified. Common names: Muscle Fibers, Fast-Twitch; Fast-Twitch Muscle Fiber; Fast-Twitch Muscle Fibers; Fiber, Fast-Twitch Muscle; Fibers, Fast-Twitch Muscle; Muscle Fiber, Fast-Twitch; Muscle Fibers, Fast Twitch; Muscle Fibers, Type II; Muscle Fibers, Intermediate; Fiber, Intermediate Muscle; Fibers, Intermediate Muscle |

Muscle after spinal cord injury.
29 Sep 2009
The morphological and contractile changes of muscles below the level of the lesion after spinal cord injury (SCI) are dramatic. In humans with SCI, a fiber-type transformation away from type I begins 4-7 months post-SCI and reaches a new steady ... Read more...

An increased capillary network has been observed in skeletal muscle of patients with restless legs syndrome (RLS) and obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS). This finding could be due to upregulation of growth factors responsible for angiogenesis. ... Read more...

Each fascicle of the triceps brachii (TB) can be independently recruited during movement execution. To investigate the anatomical basis of this selective control and to gain insight into its functional role in adult rats, we carried out a triple ... Read more...
