Myocardial Ischemia - Therapy
Research News and Information

Definition of 'Myocardial Ischemia'

A disorder of cardiac function caused by insufficient blood flow to the muscle tissue of the heart. The decreased blood flow may be due to narrowing of the coronary arteries (CORONARY ARTERY DISEASE), to obstruction by a thrombus (CORONARY THROMBOSIS), or less commonly, to diffuse narrowing of arterioles and other small vessels within the heart. Severe interruption of the blood supply to the myocardial tissue may result in necrosis of cardiac muscle (MYOCARDIAL INFARCTION).

Noninvasive quantification and optimization of acute cell retention by in vivo positron emission tomography after intramyocardial cardiac-derived stem cell delivery.

18 Oct 2009 OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to quantify acute myocardial retention of cardiac-derived stem cells (CDCs) and evaluate different delivery methods with positron emission tomography (PET). BACKGROUND: Success of stem cell transplantation for ... Read more...

Women and ischemic heart disease: evolving knowledge.

18 Oct 2009 Evolving knowledge regarding sex differences in coronary heart disease is emerging. Given the lower burden of obstructive coronary artery disease (CAD) and preserved systolic function in women, which contrasts with greater rates of myocardial ... Read more...

Partial hindlimb occlusion reduced the susceptibility to sustained ventricular tachycardia in conscious rats.

30 Aug 2009 Remote conditioning induced by ischemia in distant organs protects the heart from ischemia/reperfusion injury; however, its effect on ischemia-induced ventricular arrhythmias is unknown. Therefore, we tested the hypothesis that partial hindlimb ... Read more...
