Research News and Information

Definition of 'Nucleoside-Phosphate Kinase'

An enzyme that catalyzes reversible reactions of a nucleoside triphosphate, e.g., ATP, with a nucleoside monophosphate, e.g., UMP, to form ADP and UDP. Many nucleoside monophosphates can act as acceptor while many ribo- and deoxyribonucleoside triphosphates can act as donor. EC 2.7.4.4.

Common names: Nucleoside-Phosphate Kinase; Kinase, Nucleoside-Phosphate; Nucleoside Phosphate Kinase; Nucleoside Monophosphate Kinases; Kinases, Nucleoside Monophosphate; Monophosphate Kinases, Nucleoside

Structure of the nucleotide radical formed during reaction of CDP/TTP with the E441Q-alpha2beta2 of E. coli ribonucleotide reductase.

12 Jan 2009 The Escherichia coli ribonucleotide reductase (RNR) catalyzes the conversion of nucleoside diphosphates to deoxynucleotides and requires a diferric-tyrosyl radical cofactor for catalysis. RNR is composed of a 1:1 complex of two homodimeric subunits: ... Read more...

Knowledge based identification of potent antitubercular compounds using structure based virtual screening and structure interaction fingerprints.

30 Dec 2008 In view of the worldwide spread of multidrug resistance of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, there is an urgent need to discover antitubercular agents with novel structures. Thymidine monophosphate kinase from M. tuberculosis (TMPKmt) is an attractive ... Read more...

Mutational, inhibitory and microcalorimetric analyses of Plasmodium falciparum TMP kinase. Implications for drug discovery.

30 Dec 2008 Plasmodium falciparum thymidylate kinase (PfTMK) can tolerate a range of substrates, which distinguishes it from other thymidylate kinases. The enzyme not only phosphorylates TMP and dUMP but can also tolerate bulkier purines, namely, dGMP, GMP, and ... Read more...
