Olfactory Bulb - Anatomy & histology
Research News and Information
Definition of 'Olfactory Bulb'Ovoid body resting on the cribriform plate of the ethmoid bone where the olfactory nerve terminates. The olfactory bulb contains several types of nerve cells including the mitral cells, on whose dendrites the olfactory nerve synapses, forming the olfactory glomeruli. The accessory olfactory bulb, which receives the projection from the VOMERONASAL ORGAN via the vomeronasal nerve, is also included here. |

Although four different primary olfactory pathways have been described in tetrapod vertebrates, polymorphic olfactory sensory neurons comingle in the olfactory epithelium and project axons into separate bulbar regions in teleost fish. However, ... Read more...

Compared to land vertebrates and the other fishes, the basal ray-finned fishes and teleosts have morphologically unusual forebrains. The telencephalic pallium is everted, and its diencephalic inputs arise largely--not from what is clearly the dorsal ... Read more...

The nasal cavity and olfactory bulb (OB) of the Japanese jungle crow (Corvus macrorhynchos) were studied using computed tomography (CT) and histochemical staining. The nasal septum divided the nasal cavity in half. The anterior and maxillary conchae ... Read more...
