Definition of 'Olfactory Bulb'

Ovoid body resting on the cribriform plate of the ethmoid bone where the olfactory nerve terminates. The olfactory bulb contains several types of nerve cells including the mitral cells, on whose dendrites the olfactory nerve synapses, forming the olfactory glomeruli. The accessory olfactory bulb, which receives the projection from the VOMERONASAL ORGAN via the vomeronasal nerve, is also included here.

Endocannabinoid modulation of amphetamine sensitization is disrupted in a rodent model of lesion-induced dopamine dysregulation.

30 Oct 2009 We tested the hypothesis that increased dopaminergic sensitivity induced by olfactory bulbectomy is mediated by dysregulation of endocannabinoid signaling. Bilateral olfactory bulbectomy induces behavioral and neurobiological symptomatology related ... Read more...

Neurosphere cell differentiation to aldynoglia promoted by olfactory ensheathing cell conditioned medium.

29 Sep 2009 Cells from central nervous system with morphology similar to radial glia and properties intermediate between astrocytes and Schwann cells were called growth-promoting glia or aldynoglia. These cells are present in adult brain olfactory bulb, ... Read more...

GABA uptake-dependent Ca(2+) signaling in developing olfactory bulb astrocytes.

28 Sep 2009 We studied GABAergic signaling in astrocytes of olfactory bulb slices using confocal Ca(2+) imaging and two-photon Na(+) imaging. GABA evoked Ca(2+) transients in astrocytes that persisted in the presence of GABA(A) and GABA(B) receptor antagonists, ... Read more...
