Osteoprotegerin - Metabolism
Research News and Information

Definition of 'Osteoprotegerin'

A secreted member of the TNF receptor superfamily that negatively regulates osteoclastogenesis. It is a soluble decoy receptor of RANK LIGAND that inhibits both CELL DIFFERENTIATION and function of OSTEOCLASTS by inhibiting the interaction between RANK LIGAND and RECEPTOR ACTIVATOR OF NUCLEAR FACTOR-KAPPA B.

Common names: Osteoprotegerin; Osteoclastogenesis Inhibitory Factor; Receptors, Tumor Necrosis Factor, Member 11b; Follicular Dendritic Cell-Derived Receptor-1; Follicular Dendritic Cell Derived Receptor 1; Tumor Necrosis Factor Receptor Superfamily, Member 11b; FDCR-1 Protein; FDCR 1 Protein; OCIF Protein

Cocultures of osteoblasts and osteoclasts are influenced by local application of zoledronic acid incorporated in a poly(D,L-lactide) implant coating.

29 Sep 2009 The antiresorptive activity of bisphosphonates such as zoledronic acid (ZOL) has been shown in vitro to be because of their effect on osteoclasts and osteoblasts. However, whether the effect of ZOL on monocultures might be reproducible on cocultures ... Read more...

Osteoblast and osteoclast differentiation in an in vitro three-dimensional model of bone.

30 Aug 2009 There is increasing interest in developing new in vitro tissue models using typical tissue engineering approaches. This study was designed to (1) develop a novel three-dimensional (3D) in vitro model of bone by seeding murine primary osteoblasts and ... Read more...

NPY revealed as a critical modulator of osteoblast function in vitro: new insights into the role of Y1 and Y2 receptors.

30 Jul 2009 Neuropeptide Y (NPY) has recently emerged as a potential regulator of bone homeostasis. However, the relevance of NPY's role in osteoblast activity and the biological functions involving NPY receptors in bone homeostasis remain to be clarified. Here ... Read more...
