Oximetry - Methods
Research News and Information

Definition of 'Oximetry'

The determination of oxygen-hemoglobin saturation of blood either by withdrawing a sample and passing it through a classical photoelectric oximeter or by electrodes attached to some translucent part of the body like finger, earlobe, or skin fold. It includes non-invasive oxygen monitoring by pulse oximetry.

Common names: Oximetry; Oximetries; Oximetry, Pulse; Oximetries, Pulse; Pulse Oximetries; Pulse Oximetry

Accuracy and precision of MR blood oximetry based on the long paramagnetic cylinder approximation of large vessels.

30 Jul 2009 An accurate noninvasive method to measure the hemoglobin oxygen saturation (%HbO(2)) of deep-lying vessels without catheterization would have many clinical applications. Quantitative MRI may be the only imaging modality that can address this ... Read more...

A New EPR oximetry protocol to estimate the tissue oxygen consumption in vivo.

30 Jul 2009 Abstract The oxygen consumption rate in tumors affects tumor oxygenation and response to therapies. A new EPR method was developed to measure tissue oxygen consumption non-invasively. The protocol was based on the measurement of pO(2) during a ... Read more...

Oxygen sensitivity and biocompatibility of an implantable paramagnetic probe for repeated measurements of tissue oxygenation.

30 Jul 2009 The use of oxygen-sensing water-insoluble paramagnetic probes, such as lithium octa-n-butoxynaphthalocyanine (LiNc-BuO), enables repeated measurements of pO(2) from the same location in tissue by electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy. ... Read more...
