Research News and Information

Definition of 'p38 Mitogen-Activated Protein Kinases'

A mitogen-activated protein kinase subfamily that regulates a variety of cellular processes including CELL GROWTH PROCESSES; CELL DIFFERENTIATION; APOPTOSIS; and cellular responses to INFLAMMATION. The P38 MAP kinases are regulated by CYTOKINE RECEPTORS and can be activated in response to bacterial pathogens.

Common names: p38 Mitogen-Activated Protein Kinases; p38 Mitogen Activated Protein Kinases; p38 MAP Kinase; MAP Kinase, p38; p38 Protein Kinase; Protein Kinase, p38; p38 SAPK; Mitogen-Activated Protein Kinase p38; Mitogen Activated Protein Kinase p38; p38 MAPK; MAPK, p38

p38 MAPK mediated in compressive stress-induced chondrogenesis of rat bone marrow MSCs in 3D alginate scaffolds.

29 Nov 2009 Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are well known to have the capability to form bone and cartilage, and chondrogenesis derived from MSCs is reported to be affected by mechanical stimuli. This research was aimed to study the effects of cyclic compressive ... Read more...

Oxidized low density lipoprotein decreases Rankl-induced differentiation of osteoclasts by inhibition of Rankl signaling.

29 Nov 2009 The role of OxLDL in the generation and progression of atherosclerosis is well admitted. In addition, it is well known that atherosclerosis is often accompanied by perturbations in bone remodeling, resulting in osteoporosis. In the current studies, ... Read more...

p38 Mitogen-activated protein kinase and hematologic malignancies.

30 Oct 2009 CONTEXT: p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling has been implicated in responses ranging from apoptosis to cell cycle, induction of expression of cytokine genes, and differentiation. This plethora of activators conveys the complexity ... Read more...
