Parkinson Disease - Therapy
Research News and Information
Definition of 'Parkinson Disease'A progressive, degenerative neurologic disease characterized by a TREMOR that is maximal at rest, retropulsion (i.e. a tendency to fall backwards), rigidity, stooped posture, slowness of voluntary movements, and a masklike facial expression. Pathologic features include loss of melanin containing neurons in the substantia nigra and other pigmented nuclei of the brainstem. LEWY BODIES are present in the substantia nigra and locus coeruleus but may also be found in a related condition (LEWY BODY DISEASE, DIFFUSE) characterized by dementia in combination with varying degrees of parkinsonism. Functional magnetic stimulation in constipation associated with Parkinson's disease.
30 Oct 2009
OBJECTIVE: The aims of this study were: (i) to investigate the effect of functional magnetic stimulation on total colonic transit time in patients with Parkinson's disease; (ii) to compare the changes in dynamic recto-anal behaviour during filling ... Read more...

OBJECT: The aim of the current study was to examine and compare the aftereffects of local high-frequency microstimulation through the recording electrode on the firing of neurons in the subthalamic nucleus (STN) and the substantia nigra pars ... Read more...
29 Sep 2009
OBJECT: The authors developed a wavelet-based measure for quantitative assessment of neural background activity during intraoperative neurophysiological recordings so that the boundaries of the subthalamic nucleus (STN) can be more easily localized ... Read more...
