Perceptual Disorders - Pathology
Research News and Information
Definition of 'Perceptual Disorders'Cognitive disorders characterized by an impaired ability to perceive the nature of objects or concepts through use of the sense organs. These include spatial neglect syndromes, where an individual does not attend to visual, auditory, or sensory stimuli presented from one side of the body. Common names: Perceptual Disorders; Perceptual Disorder; Somatosensory Discrimination Disorder; Discrimination Disorder, Somatosensory; Discrimination Disorders, Somatosensory; Somatosensory Discrimination Disorders; Sensory Neglect; Neglect, Sensory; Sensory Neglects; Hemisensory Neglect; Hemisensory Neglects |

Retinotopic mapping is a basic feature of visual system organization, but its role in processing visual information is unknown. Mutant mice lacking the beta2 subunit of nicotinic acetylcholine receptor have imprecise maps in both visual cortex (V1) ... Read more...
Eastchester clapping sign: a novel test of parietal neglect.
29 Jun 2009
Hand clapping is a motor program mastered in infancy. Inspired by a question posed by an Eastchester High School AP Psychology class, we present a case series of 14 patients with hemispatial neglect who, when asked to clap, repeatedly performed ... Read more...
Neuroanatomical substrate of visuospatial and visuoperceptual impairment in Parkinson's disease.
13 Jun 2009
To determine magnetic resonance imaging patterns of gray matter (GM) atrophy underlying visuospatial and visuoperceptual impairment in Parkinson's disease (PD), we applied voxel-based morphometry to 36 nondemented PD patients and correlated their ... Read more...
