Definition of 'Pre-Eclampsia'A complication of PREGNANCY, characterized by a complex of symptoms including maternal HYPERTENSION and PROTEINURIA with or without pathological EDEMA. Symptoms may range between mild and severe. Pre-eclampsia usually occurs after the 20th week of gestation, but may develop before this time in the presence of trophoblastic disease. Common names: Pre-Eclampsia; Pre Eclampsia; Toxemias, Pregnancy; Edema-Proteinuria-Hypertension Gestosis; Edema Proteinuria Hypertension Gestosis; Gestosis, Edema-Proteinuria-Hypertension; EPH Complex; Pregnancy Toxemias; Pregnancy Toxemia; Toxemia, Pregnancy; EPH Toxemias; EPH Toxemia; Toxemia, EPH |

Preeclampsia is characterized by vascular endothelial dysfunction partly attributed to oxidative stress. In the vasculature of preeclamptic women, we have shown increased lectin-like oxidized low-density lipoprotein receptor 1 (LOX-1) and arginase ... Read more...

OBJECTIVE: We sought to determine whether serum lipids at midgestation differ between normotensive women and women developing mild and severe preeclampsia. STUDY DESIGN: A case-control study of 50 women with preeclampsia (mild = 26; severe = 24) and ... Read more...
