Research News and Information

Definition of 'Proteasome Endopeptidase Complex'

A large multisubunit complex that plays an important role in the degradation of most of the cytosolic and nuclear proteins in eukaryotic cells. It contains a 700-kDa catalytic sub-complex and two 700-kDa regulatory sub-complexes. The complex digests ubiquitinated proteins and protein activated via ornithine decarboxylase antizyme.

Impaired cell cycle regulation of the osteoblast-related heterodimeric transcription factor Runx2-Cbfbeta in osteosarcoma cells.

29 Nov 2009 Bone formation and osteoblast differentiation require the functional expression of the Runx2/Cbfbeta heterodimeric transcription factor complex. Runx2 is also a suppressor of proliferation in osteoblasts by attenuating cell cycle progression in ... Read more...

Proteasome inhibition modulates kinase activation in neural cells: relevance to ubiquitination, ribosomes, and survival.

30 Oct 2009 In this study we examined whether established signal transduction cascades, p44/42 mitogen-activated protein kinase (ERK1/2) and Jun N-terminal kinases (JNK) pathways, are altered in N2a neural cells in response to proteasome inhibition. ... Read more...

Ubiquilin and p97/VCP bind erasin, forming a complex involved in ERAD.

10 Oct 2009 Unwanted proteins in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) are exported into the cytoplasm and degraded by the proteasome through the ER-associated protein degradation pathway (ERAD). Disturbances in ERAD are linked to ER stress, which has been implicated ... Read more...
