Definition of 'Proto-Oncogene Proteins c-myc'

Cellular DNA-binding proteins encoded by the c-myc genes. They are normally involved in nucleic acid metabolism and in mediating the cellular response to growth factors. Elevated and deregulated (constitutive) expression of c-myc proteins can cause tumorigenesis.

Prostaglandin E(2) promotes cell proliferation via protein kinase C/extracellular signal regulated kinase pathway-dependent induction of c-Myc expression in human esophageal squamous cell carcinoma cells.

29 Nov 2009 Overexpression of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) and elevation of its derivative prostaglandin E(2) (PGE(2)) are implicated in human esophageal squamous cell carcinoma. The expression of c-Myc, an oncogenic transcription factor, is also upregulated in ... Read more...

Have you seen...?: Micro-managing and restraining pluripotent stem cells by MYC.

19 Oct 2009 The MYC proto-oncogene, which encodes a master transcriptional regulator c-Myc (herein termed Myc), has a key role in stem cell (SC) pluripotency and tumourigenesis. Its deregulated expression contributes to cancer development and enhances the ... Read more...

Somatic single hits inactivate the X-linked tumor suppressor FOXP3 in the prostate.

4 Oct 2009 Despite clear epidemiological and genetic evidence for X-linked prostate cancer risk, all prostate cancer genes identified are autosomal. Here, we report somatic inactivating mutations and deletion of the X-linked FOXP3 gene residing at Xp11.23 in ... Read more...
