Definition of 'Receptor, Serotonin, 5-HT2A'

A serotonin receptor subtype found widely distributed in peripheral tissues where it mediates the contractile responses of variety of tissues that contain SMOOTH MUSCLE. Selective 5-HT2A receptor antagonists include KETANSERIN. The 5-HT2A subtype is also located in BASAL GANGLIA and CEREBRAL CORTEX of the BRAIN where it mediates the effects of HALLUCINOGENS such as LSD.

Common names: Receptor, Serotonin, 5-HT2A; 5-HT2A Receptor; 5 HT2A Receptor; Receptor, 5-HT2A; Serotonin 2A Receptors; 2A Receptors, Serotonin; Receptors, Serotonin 2A; Serotonin 2A Receptor; 5-HT(2A) Receptor; Receptor, Serotonin 2A; 2A Receptor, Serotonin

Assessment of binding affinity to 5-hydroxytryptamine 2A (5-HT2A) receptor and inverse agonist activity of naftidrofuryl: comparison with those of sarpogrelate.

30 Jul 2009 Naftidrofuryl is a peripheral vasodilator that has been clinically used in the treatment of intermittent claudication and dementia. It has 5-hydroxytryptamine 2 (5-HT(2)) antiserotonergic activity and selectively binds with the 5-HT(2) receptor. The ... Read more...

Implication of the 5-HT2A and 5-HT2C (but not 5HT1A) receptors located within the periaqueductal gray in the elevated plus-maze test-retest paradigm in mice.

17 Jul 2009 A single exposure to the elevated plus-maze test (EPM) increases open arms avoidance and reduces or abolishes the anxiolytic-like effect of benzodiazepines assessed during a second trial, a phenomenon defined as "one-trial tolerance" (OTT). It has ... Read more...

5-HT2C-like receptors in the brain of Xenopus laevis initiate sex-typical fictive vocalizations.

25 May 2009 Vocalizations of male and female African clawed frogs (Xenopus laevis) are generated by brain stem central pattern generators. Serotonin (5-HT) is likely important for vocal initiation because, when applied in vitro, sex-typical fictive ... Read more...
