Definition of 'Receptor, Serotonin, 5-HT2A'

A serotonin receptor subtype found widely distributed in peripheral tissues where it mediates the contractile responses of variety of tissues that contain SMOOTH MUSCLE. Selective 5-HT2A receptor antagonists include KETANSERIN. The 5-HT2A subtype is also located in BASAL GANGLIA and CEREBRAL CORTEX of the BRAIN where it mediates the effects of HALLUCINOGENS such as LSD.

Association between the use of serotonin receptor 2A-blocking antidepressants and joint disorders.

13 Oct 2009 OBJECTIVE: There are case reports about antidepressants causing arthritis and arthralgia, and the majority of these reports deal with atypical antidepressants, which are serotonin receptor 2A (5-HT(2A))-blocking substances. The aim of this study was ... Read more...

Mechanisms by which the serotonergic system inhibits micturition in rats.

31 Aug 2009 AIMS: Serotonergic neurons and amino acid neurons are involved in the central nervous control of lower urinary tract function. We investigated the role of the serotonergic system in the central regulation of micturition, as well as the relationship ... Read more...
