Receptors, Adrenergic, alpha-1
Research News and Information
Definition of 'Receptors, Adrenergic, alpha-1'A subclass of alpha-adrenergic receptors (RECEPTORS, ADRENERGIC, ALPHA). alpha-1 Adrenergic receptors can be pharmacologically discriminated, e.g., by their high affinity for the agonist phenylephrine and the antagonist prazosin. They are widespread, with clinically important concentrations in the liver, the heart, vascular, intestinal, and genitourinary smooth muscle, and the central and peripheral nervous systems. |

Heart failure is a syndrome characterized initially by left ventricular dysfunction that triggers countermeasures aimed to restore cardiac output. These responses are compensatory at first but eventually become part of the disease process itself ... Read more...

BACKGROUND: Recently, alpha(1)-adrenoceptors (alpha(1)-ARs) have been reported to play a prominent role in the growth of a variety of cells; however, little is known about prostate growth and subtype-specific effects on cell proliferation. We ... Read more...

OBJECTIVES: The goal was to identify alpha-1-adrenergic receptor (AR) subtypes in human coronary arteries. BACKGROUND: The alpha1-ARs regulate human coronary blood flow. The alpha1-ARs exist as 3 molecular subtypes, alpha1A, alpha1B, and alpha1D, ... Read more...
