Receptors, Glucocorticoid
Research News and Information
Definition of 'Receptors, Glucocorticoid'Cytoplasmic proteins that specifically bind glucocorticoids and mediate their cellular effects. The glucocorticoid receptor-glucocorticoid complex acts in the nucleus to induce transcription of DNA. Glucocorticoids were named for their actions on blood glucose concentration, but they have equally important effects on protein and fat metabolism. Cortisol is the most important example. Common names: Receptors, Glucocorticoid; Glucocorticoid Receptors; Glucocorticoid Receptor; Receptor, Glucocorticoid; Receptors, Glucocorticoids; Glucocorticoids Receptors; Receptors, Corticoid Type II; Corticoid Type II Receptors; Corticoid II Receptor; Receptor, Corticoid II; Receptors, Corticoid II |

An epistatic ratchet constrains the direction of glucocorticoid receptor evolution.
22 Sep 2009
The extent to which evolution is reversible has long fascinated biologists. Most previous work on the reversibility of morphological and life-history evolution has been indecisive, because of uncertainty and bias in the methods used to infer ... Read more...
Enhancement of ligand-dependent down-regulation of glucocorticoid receptor by lipopolysaccharide.
31 Aug 2009
AIMS: The inhibitory actions of glucocorticoids are often attenuated in inflamed tissues. The aim of the present study was to investigate whether the dexamethasone-induced downregulation of glucocorticoid receptor (GR) expression was enhanced by the ... Read more...
Hop bitter acids efficiently block inflammation independent of GRalpha, PPARalpha, or PPARgamma.
30 Aug 2009
Hop (Humulus lupulus L.) is an essential ingredient of beer, where it provides the typical bitter taste, but is also applied in traditional folk medicine for sedative and antibacterial purposes. In this study, we demonstrate and compare the ... Read more...
