Renin - Blood
Research News and Information
Definition of 'Renin'A highly specific (Leu-Leu) endopeptidase that generates ANGIOTENSIN I from its precursor ANGIOTENSINOGEN, leading to a cascade of reactions which elevate BLOOD PRESSURE and increase sodium retention by the kidney in the RENIN-ANGIOTENSIN SYSTEM. The enzyme was formerly listed as EC 3.4.99.19. Common names: Renin; Angiotensinogenase; Angiotensin-Forming Enzyme; Angiotensin Forming Enzyme; Prorenin; Cryorenin; Inactive Renin; Renin, Inactive; Big Renin; Renin, Big; Preprorenin; Pre-Prorenin; Pre Prorenin |

Studies have shown that aspirin may decrease blood pressure when given at bedtime but not when administered on awakening. However, until now, a biologically plausible mechanism of this striking phenomenon was not revealed. We investigated the effect ... Read more...

Ang-(1-7) (angiotensin-1-7), a peptide product of the recently described ACE (angiotensin-converting enzyme) homologue ACE2, opposes the harmful actions of AngII (angiotensin II) in cardiovascular tissues, but its role in liver disease is unknown. ... Read more...
Lack of cardiac fibrosis in a new model of high prorenin hyperaldosteronism.
9 Sep 2009
The aim of the present study was to test the hypothesis that elevation of prorenin in plasma is sufficient to induce cardiac fibrosis. Normotensive cyp1a1ren-2 transgenic rats with normal plasma prorenin and aldosterone levels were given 0.125% ... Read more...
