Ribosomal Protein S6 Kinases
Research News and Information
Definition of 'Ribosomal Protein S6 Kinases'A family of protein serine/threonine kinases which act as intracellular signalling intermediates. Ribosomal protein S6 kinases are activated through phosphorylation in response to a variety of HORMONES and INTERCELLULAR SIGNALING PEPTIDES AND PROTEINS. Phosphorylation of RIBOSOMAL PROTEIN S6 by enzymes in this class results in increased expression of 5' TOP MRNAS. Although specific for RIBOSOMAL PROTEIN S6 members of this class of kinases can act on a number of substrates within the cell. The immunosuppressant SIROLIMUS inhibits the activation of ribosomal protein S6 kinases. |

BMS-536924 sensitizes human epithelial ovarian cancer cells to the PARP inhibitor, 3-aminobenzamide.
19 Aug 2009
OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the anti-neoplastic activity of BMS-536924, an IGF-1R inhibitor, in epithelial ovarian cancer and its capacity to potentiate the effect of a PARP inhibitor, 3-aminobenzamide. METHODS: OVCAR-3, OVCAR-4, SKOV-3 and TOV-81D cell ... Read more...

Nur77, an orphan nuclear receptor, plays a key role in apoptosis in T cells. In cancer cell lines, Nur77 can induce apoptosis through the intrinsic apoptotic pathway, but the mechanism by which Nur77 kills T cells remains controversial. In this ... Read more...
mTOR, S6 and AKT expression in relation to proliferation and apoptosis/autophagy in glioma.
30 Jul 2009
BACKGROUND: The mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) controls cell growth through protein synthesis regulation. It can be activated by protein kinase B (AKT) or through ribosomal S6 kinase (S6K1). In malignant glioma, mTOR inhibitors have ... Read more...
