Research News and Information

Definition of 'RNA, Double-Stranded'

RNA consisting of two strands as opposed to the more prevalent single-stranded RNA. Most of the double-stranded segments are formed from transcription of DNA by intramolecular base-pairing of inverted complementary sequences separated by a single-stranded loop. Some double-stranded segments of RNA are normal in all organisms.

Common names: RNA, Double-Stranded; RNA, Double Stranded; Double-Stranded RNA; Double Stranded RNA

Induction of apoptosis in the synovium of mice with autoantibody-mediated arthritis by the intraarticular injection of double-stranded MicroRNA-15a.

30 Aug 2009 OBJECTIVE: MicroRNA is a family of noncoding RNAs that exhibit tissue-specific or developmental stage-specific expression patterns and are associated with human diseases. MicroRNA-15a (miR-15a) is reported to induce cell apoptosis by negatively ... Read more...

PolyI:C-induced reduction in uptake of soluble antigen is independent of dendritic cell activation.

5 Jun 2009 Dendritic cells (DC) are key players in the initiation and modulation of adaptive immune responses due to their ability to acquire and present antigen and stimulate T cells. For the induction of effector T cell functions, antigen must be presented ... Read more...

Transcriptional control of behavior: engrailed knock-out changes cockroach escape trajectories.

Jun 2009 The cerci of the cockroach are covered with identified sensory hairs that detect air movements. The sensory neurons that innervate these hairs synapse with giant interneurons in the terminal ganglion that in turn synapse with interneurons and leg ... Read more...
