Serotonin Uptake Inhibitors - Administration & dosage
Research News and Information
Definition of 'Serotonin Uptake Inhibitors'Compounds that specifically inhibit the reuptake of serotonin in the brain. This increases the serotonin concentration in the synaptic cleft which then activates serotonin receptors to a greater extent. These agents have been used in treatment of depression, panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive behavior, and alcoholism, as analgesics, and to treat obesity and bulimia. Many of the ADRENERGIC UPTAKE INHIBITORS also inhibit serotonin uptake; they are not included here. |

INTRODUCTION: The consumption of benzodiazepines (BZ) and cyclopyrrolones (CP) has attracted great interest in recent years due to the serious side-effects associated with these drugs. Two medical practices introduced a more restrictive approach to ... Read more...

BACKGROUND: Antidepressant drugs act as potent inhibitors of norepinephrine and/or serotonin reuptake and are widely used with opioids for the treatment of chronic pain. The mechanism of this increased analgesic action is unclear. We compared the ... Read more...
Neonatal S100B protein levels after prenatal exposure to selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.
26 Sep 2009
OBJECTIVE: This study investigated neonatal S100B levels as a biomarker of prenatal selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) exposure. METHODS: Maternal (delivery; N = 53) and neonatal (cord; N = 52) serum S100B levels were compared between ... Read more...
