Sex Hormone-Binding Globulin - Metabolism
Research News and Information
Definition of 'Sex Hormone-Binding Globulin'A glycoprotein migrating as a beta-globulin. Its molecular weight, 52,000 or 95,000-115,000, indicates that it exists as a dimer. The protein binds testosterone, dihydrotestosterone, and estradiol in the plasma. Sex hormone-binding protein has the same amino acid sequence as ANDROGEN-BINDING PROTEIN. They differ by their sites of synthesis and post-translational oligosaccharide modifications. Common names: Sex Hormone-Binding Globulin; Globulin, Sex Hormone-Binding; Hormone-Binding Globulin, Sex; Sex Hormone Binding Globulin; Testosterone-Estradiol Binding Globulin; Binding Globulin, Testosterone-Estradiol; Globulin, Testosterone-Estradiol Binding; Testosterone Estradiol Binding Globulin |

Sex hormones and frailty in older men: the osteoporotic fractures in men (MrOS) study.
6 Sep 2009
CONTEXT: As men age, the prevalence of frailty increases whereas levels of androgens decline. Little is known about the relation between these factors. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to assess cross-sectional and longitudinal associations of ... Read more...

OBJECTIVE: Insulin resistance is associated with metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes, representing a risk factor for cardiovascular disease. This relationship may be modulated to some extent by age-related changes in sex hormone status. We ... Read more...
Insulin resistance and C-reactive protein in preeclampsia.
30 Jul 2009
Preeclampsia is referred to as the "disease of the theories" because of the multiple hypotheses proposed to explain is occurrence. Despite considerable research, the causes of preeclampsia remain unclear. Preeclampsia is likely to be multifactorial ... Read more...
