Somatosensory Disorders
Research News and Information
Definition of 'Somatosensory Disorders'Disorders of sensory information received from superficial and deep regions of the body. The somatosensory system conveys neural impulses which pertain to proprioception, tactile sensation, thermal sensation, pressure sensation, and pain. PERIPHERAL NERVOUS SYSTEM DISEASES; SPINAL CORD DISEASES; and BRAIN DISEASES may be associated with impaired or abnormal somatic sensation. Common names: Somatosensory Disorders; Somatosensory Disorder; Somatic Sensation Disorders; Sensation Disorder, Somatic; Sensation Disorders, Somatic; Somatic Sensation Disorder; Pain Sensation Diminished; Diminished, Pain Sensation; Diminisheds, Pain Sensation; Pain Sensation Diminisheds |

OBJECTIVE: To determine if patients with brain lesions who have a unilateral loss of their primary somatosensory-evoked potential (SSEP) have altered temporal perception. BACKGROUND: Benjamin Libet postulated that the neural processing of stimuli to ... Read more...
Microsurgical repair of peripheral trigeminal nerve injuries from maxillofacial trauma.
30 Aug 2009
PURPOSE: Injuries to the peripheral branches of the trigeminal nerve from maxillofacial trauma can have distressing sensory or functional sequelae. The present study reports the results of trigeminal microneurosurgical repair in a series of patients ... Read more...
