Definition of 'Spectrometry, Mass, Electrospray Ionization'

A mass spectrometry technique used for analysis of nonvolatile compounds such as proteins and macromolecules. The technique involves preparing electrically charged droplets from analyte molecules dissolved in solvent. The electrically charged droplets enter a vacuum chamber where the solvent is evaporated. Evaporation of solvent reduces the droplet size, thereby increasing the coulombic repulsion within the droplet. As the charged droplets get smaller, the excess charge within them causes them to disintegrate and release analyte molecules. The volatilized analyte molecules are then analyzed by mass spectrometry.

Characterization of covalent adducts of nucleosides and DNA formed by reaction with levuglandin.

15 Nov 2009 Enhanced expression of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) is associated with development of several cancers. The product of COX-2, prostaglandin H(2) (PGH(2)), can undergo spontaneous rearrangement and nonenzymatic ring cleavage to form the highly reactive ... Read more...

Modeling the syn disposition of nitrogen donors in non-heme diiron enzymes. Synthesis, characterization, and hydrogen peroxide reactivity of diiron(III) complexes with the syn N-donor ligand H2BPG2DEV.

12 Oct 2009 In order to model the syn disposition of histidine residues in carboxylate-bridged non-heme diiron enzymes, we prepared a new dinucleating ligand, H(2)BPG(2)DEV, that provides this geometric feature. The ligand incorporates biologically relevant ... Read more...

Validated LC coupled to ESI-MS/MS analysis for fentanyl in human plasma and UV analysis in applied reservoir transdermal patches using a simple and rapid procedure.

29 Sep 2009 BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Fentanyl has been used for cancer pain in transdermal formulation. The aim of the present study was to establish an analytical method for fentanyl in human plasma and in an applied transdermal reservoir patch ... Read more...
