Definition of 'T-Lymphocytes'

Lymphocytes responsible for cell-mediated immunity. Two types have been identified - cytotoxic (T-LYMPHOCYTES, CYTOTOXIC) and helper T-lymphocytes (T-LYMPHOCYTES, HELPER-INDUCER). They are formed when lymphocytes circulate through the THYMUS GLAND and differentiate to thymocytes. When exposed to an antigen, they divide rapidly and produce large numbers of new T cells sensitized to that antigen.

Common names: T-Lymphocytes; T Lymphocytes; T-Lymphocyte; T-Cells; T Cells; T-Cell; Thymus-Dependent Lymphocytes; Lymphocyte, Thymus-Dependent; Lymphocytes, Thymus-Dependent; Thymus Dependent Lymphocytes; Thymus-Dependent Lymphocyte

Lymphocytic vasculitis involving the central nervous system occurs in patients with X-linked lymphoproliferative disease in the absence of Epstein-Barr virus infection.

29 Nov 2009 X-linked lymphoproliferative disease (XLP) is an immunodeficiency caused by defects in the adaptor molecule SAP. The manifestations of XLP generally occur following Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection and include fulminant mononucleosis, ... Read more...

Accelerated thymic atrophy as a result of elevated homeostatic expression of the genes encoded by the TNF/lymphotoxin cytokine locus.

29 Sep 2009 TNF, lymphotoxin (LT)-alpha, LT-beta and LIGHT are members of a larger superfamily of TNF-related cytokines that can cross-utilize several receptors. Although LIGHT has been implicated in thymic development and function, the role of TNF and LT ... Read more...

Cell-autonomous role of EphB2 and EphB3 receptors in the thymic epithelial cell organization.

29 Sep 2009 The role of EphB2 and EphB3 in the organization of thymic epithelial cells has been studied in EphB-deficient fetal thymus lobes grafted under the kidney capsule of WT mice. The deficient lobes, as compared with WT ones, showed altered distribution ... Read more...
