Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor A - Analysis
Research News and Information
Definition of 'Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor A'The original member of the family of endothelial cell growth factors referred to as VASCULAR ENDOTHELIAL GROWTH FACTORS. Vascular endothelial growth factor-A was originally isolated from tumor cells and referred to as "tumor angiogenesis factor" and "vascular permeability factor". Although expressed at high levels in certain tumor-derived cells it is produced by a wide variety of cell types. In addition to stimulating vascular growth and vascular permeability it may play a role in stimulating VASODILATION via NITRIC OXIDE-dependent pathways. Alternative splicing of the mRNA for vascular endothelial growth factor A results in several isoforms of the protein being produced. |

VEGF expression as a prognostic marker in osteosarcoma.
29 Nov 2009
BACKGROUND: The vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) pathway is the key regulator of angiogenesis. In osteosarcoma baseline VEGF is of proven prognostic value but prognostic potential of post-NACT VEGF expression is largely unexplored. ... Read more...
Anti-angiogenic factor endostatin in osteosarcoma.
29 Sep 2009
Neoplastic neovascularization is regulated not only by stimulators, but also by inhibitors of angiogenesis and might be the result of a net balance between the positive and negative regulators. Endostatin (ES) is a potent inhibitor of angiogenesis. ... Read more...
30 Aug 2009
BACKGROUND: Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) has been implicated in tumorigenesis and metastasis, and it presumably mediates the proliferation of endothelial cells and promotes vascular permeability. However, the prognostic value of VEGF ... Read more...
