Definition of 'Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor Receptor-1'

A 180-kDa VEGF receptor found primarily in endothelial cells that is essential for vasculogenesis and vascular maintenance. It is also known as Flt-1 (fms-like tyrosine kinase receptor-1). A soluble, alternatively spliced isoform of the receptor may serve as a binding protein that regulates the availability of various ligands for VEGF receptor binding and signal transduction.

Common names: Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor Receptor-1; Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor Receptor 1; FLT1 Receptor Tyrosine Kinase; VEGF Receptor flt-1 Protein; VEGF Receptor flt 1 Protein; VEGFR-1; fms-Like Tyrosine Kinase; Tyrosine Kinase, fms-Like; Proto-Oncogene Protein flt; Proto Oncogene Protein flt

Vascular endothelial growth factor receptor-1 (VEGFR-1) expression in human corneal fibroblast decreased with age.

27 Sep 2009 PURPOSE: Mechanisms by which fibroblast networks between stromal lamellae are laid in the corneal stroma are far from clear. We have investigated the role of vascular endothelial growth factor receptors (VEGFRs) by in vitro studies in the human ... Read more...

Vascular endothelial growth factor is a key mediator in the development of T cell priming and its polarization to type 1 and type 17 T helper cells in the airways.

26 Sep 2009 Chronic inflammatory airway diseases including asthma are characterized by immune dysfunction to inhaled allergens. Our previous studies demonstrated that T cell priming to inhaled allergens requires LPS, which is ubiquitously present in household ... Read more...

Malignant cell-derived PlGF promotes normalization and remodeling of the tumor vasculature.

23 Sep 2009 Vascular functions of PlGF remain poorly understood and controversial. Here, we show that tumor cell-derived PlGF-1 and PlGF-2 displayed significant remodeling effects on the tumor vasculature, leading to a normalized vascular phenotype and improved ... Read more...
