Wnt Proteins
Research News and Information
Definition of 'Wnt Proteins'Wnt proteins are a large family of secreted glycoproteins that play essential roles in EMBRYONIC AND FETAL DEVELOPMENT, and tissue maintenance. They bind to FRIZZLED RECEPTORS and act as PARACRINE PROTEIN FACTORS to initiate a variety of SIGNAL TRANSDUCTION PATHWAYS. The canonical Wnt signaling pathway stabilizes the transcriptional coactivator BETA CATENIN. Common names: Wnt Proteins; Wnt Factors; Wingless Type Proteins |

Calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase IV (CaMKIV) plays a key role in the regulation of calcium-dependent gene expression. The expression of CaMKIV and the activation of CREB regulated genes are involved in memory and neuronal survival. We ... Read more...

29 Nov 2009
Little is known on pathways involved in the pathogenesis of choroid plexus tumors (CPTs). The finding of overexpression of Wnt inhibitory factor-1 (Wif-1) prompted us to investigate the functional role of Wif-1 as well as nuclear accumulation of ... Read more...
The anti-helminthic niclosamide inhibits Wnt/Frizzled1 signaling.
Nov 2009
Wnt proteins bind to seven-transmembrane Frizzled receptors to mediate the important developmental, morphogenetic, and stem cell related tissue-regenerative effects of Wnt signaling. Dysregulated Wnt signaling is associated with many cancers. ... Read more...
